An Uber driver was berated by a plainclothes NYPD officer after an incident in New York City Monday, which was captured on video by the passenger.
The video shows the officer, a New York City detective, yelling and cursing at the driver. Both men got into a spat after the officer failed to use his blinker when he was parking his car, the passenger told MyFoxNY.com. The driver drove around him, honked his horn and gestured at the officer to use his blinker.
The officer was immediately set off and began to scream at the driver as well as mocking the driver’s accent and broken English.
Uber said no one knew the man was an officer because he was not wearing a uniform, he was driving an unmarked car and he did not identify himself as an officer when he approached the Uber driver’s car.
The Uber driver was not given a ticket, but has filed a complaint with the NYPD about the incident. Internal affairs and the civilian complaint review board are also investigating the incident.
"The behavior in the video is wrong and unacceptable and we appreciate the NYPD investigating the incident,” Uber said in a statement.
The officer is facing administrative prosecution if he is believed to be in the wrong.
