Who Killed The Mayor? On February 25th, activist, Pan-Africanist and Mayor of Jackson Mississippi ,Chokwe Lumumba died of alleged heart failure. Hinds county supervisor Kenny Stokes now believes that Lumumba was assassinated. He wants an autopsy conducted to rule out the possibility of foul play. The Coroners office refuses to do an autopsy as if Mississippi has something to hide.
The legendary Lumumba was adamant about self determination for African Americans. He moved to Mississippi years ago to gain the political trust of the people. Many assume the Mayor may have been killed because of the efforts he madein the liberation of African people.
Florida Judge Wants To Give Marissa Alexander 60 Years: Marissa Alexander was convicted on three charges of aggravated assault in 2012 for firing warning shots at Rico Gray- her estranged, abusive husband. No one was injured in the incedent, however, she was unjustly sentenced to twenty years in prison. Many believe her conviction was racially motivated.
Her attorneys argued that she was entitled the right of self defense after her husband physically assaulted her and threatened to kill her. The controversial Stand Your Ground law was used by George Zimmerman and Michael Dunn in the murders they committed. Alexander, a black woman, was defending herself against her husband, but Stand Your Ground was not accepted in her case. It seems Stand Your Ground is being applied in a racist manner. There is obviously a disparity in the way justice is being administered.
Florida State Attorney Angela Corey will seek to triple Marissa Alexander’s original prison sentence from twenty to sixty years, effectively a life sentence for the 33-year-old woman, when her case is retried this July .
Corey seems to be sending the message that "Negros" need to stay in their place. Alexander exercised her right to self defense- a person can not be penalized for exercising their constitutional rights.
Michael Dunn Appeals: Michael Dunn was convicted of attempted murder in the shooting death of Jordan Davis- in the "loud music" case in Florida. Dunn is currently appealing the conviction and awaiting sentencing. However, he doesn't want to be sentenced until then appeal profess is over.
