Jasiri x is known for his hard hitting social commentary. The Pittsburgh resident has been using the power of rap music to convey his message for years. He has chimed in on subjects that Include Trayvon Martin, Occupy Wall Street, The Tea Party and police stop and frisk in his lyrics. He does not hesitate be to the CNN of the hood that Chuck D spoke of years ago.
He is always accompanied by Paradise Gray, one of the founding members of The X Clan. Jasiri Xs' music always comes with a companion video, which is often filmed by Paradise himself.
Jasiri sometimes rhymes to original tracks, but also rhymes to instrumentals of known hits in an effort to grab the listeners attention- so that his message will be heard.
This time around Jasiri takes a swipe at New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg- in what could possibly be misunderstood as a Kendrick Lamar dis. Much has been said about Kendrick Lamars "king of New York" comment. Only a few emcees' responded to what some consider to be disrespectful to the birthplace of Hip-Hop. Jasiri puts a different spin on it by hypothetically playing Mayor Bloomberg in rhyme. He said "tell Kendrick Lamar the king of New York is me".
The underlying message is the idea that young black and brown people should be more organized against the system instead of getting into contention with each other. It also relays the idea that billionaire Mayor Bloomberg has absolute power in the city of New York- being the only Mayor that purchased a third term for himself. Will fans of Hip-Hop get Jasiris' message twisted? Only time will tell. Jasiri X, however should be part of the conversation.
