In 2003 she released her first independent project call "Maya Who?!", which was followed by tours in The States and in Europe. She has since released seven albums. Mayas' latest endeavour is a song called "Dance Revoulution" which was released to raise awareness about rape and sexual abuse. According to data one in three women and girls are sexually assaulted or raped in their lifetime, totaling a number of one billion. A campaign called One Billion Rising was created by Eve Ensler to raise awareness of this growing problem. Today, February 14th onebillionrising.org has organized a one day event. They are asking one billion women worldwide to dance in the name of calling an end to violence against women and girls. Watch Mayas' video to promote the cause.
